Summer 2014 photo recap
It's been a busy start to the year and I like to keep this place up to date with what i've been shooting, so rather than labour over individual posts i'm going to dump a big batch of images that i've shot since January.
It's a varied mix; from big events to portraits, tourism, food, PR jobs, theatre and music.
A lot of what I read about being successful in a creative career says you need to specialise - to hone your craft in a specific field. To be known for thatone thing you do better than anybody else. I don't doubt that's good advice but I can't help wanting to shoot all sorts of things.
Surfest Newcastle
I had a great assignment from Destination NSW to shoot pictures of Surfest in Newcastle as well as some more tourism oriented shots of the area. I'd never shot surfing before, but it was great fun sniping shots of the action from the shore with a 400mm lens.
Helen Kaminski
I shot some PR pictures for the hatmaker Helen Kaminski. Shooting models is still a novelty for me as most of the time i'm shooting "normal" people who clam up in front of the camera. Models make my job EASY.
Exxopolis
This remarkable inflated 'luminaria' was erected by Architects of Air on the Sydney Opera House forecourt in January.
The National at Sydney Opera House
Time Out Sydney
I shot Ben/Heather and Justin and Matt for a story on how people celebrate Mardi Gras.
Summer at the House
Sydney Opera House hosts a variety of special things for the Summer; restaurant pop-ups, kids activities, yoga sessions and outdoor concerts.
Sydney Festival
I didn't shoot a lot of Sydney Festival this year, but I did have the joy of spending 3 hours 50 metres above the crowd in a cherry picker to shoot wide vistas of the Summer at the Domain concert.
La Soiree
For a special one off performance, some of the La Soiree cast performed outside one morning.
And the rest...
Here's a few more odds and ends from the summer.
